The power of words — Do the words we speak every day actually shape the life we live?

Think about the last time someone said something to you that completely changed how you felt in that moment. Maybe it was a compliment that gave you confidence when you needed it most. Maybe it was a harsh comment that stuck with you for days longer than it should have. Maybe it was a simple “I believe in you” that came at exactly the right time. Either way the words landed and they landed hard. That is the power of words and most of us seriously underestimate it every single day.

Words are not just sounds or letters strung together. They carry energy, intention and weight. The things we say to others can lift them up or tear them down in ways that last far longer than the moment they were spoken. A teacher who told a student they were not smart enough. A parent who said they were proud of their child for the first time. A manager who recognised someone’s effort in front of the whole team. A friend who said exactly the right thing at exactly the right moment. These words become part of people. They shape beliefs, decisions and sometimes entire life directions.

But here is the part we talk about even less — the words we speak to ourselves. The internal dialogue that runs quietly in the background of our minds every single day. If you constantly tell yourself you are not good enough, not ready or not capable your brain starts to believe it and your actions follow. On the flip side people who speak to themselves with encouragement, compassion and belief tend to show up differently in everything they do. The relationship you have with your own inner voice is arguably the most important relationship in your life.

Words create worlds. The language you use about yourself and about others is quietly building the reality you live in whether you are conscious of it or not. Choose them wisely.

So tell us — have you ever had words said to you that completely changed your life either positively or negatively? Share your story below.

Words can have a lasting impact on our lives. Sometimes, a few kind words can give someone the confidence to keep going during a difficult time. We should always think about how our words may affect others, because even a small message of encouragement can make a big difference.
