SEO in 2026 Isn’t About Abandoning the Fundamentals
SEO is changing quickly with AI Overviews, generative search, zero-click searches, and changing user behavior. But does that mean we should forget the SEO fundamentals?
Not at all.
In 2026: the basics are still important:
- Creating helpful, people-first content
- Strong keyword and search intent research
- Technical SEO and website performance
- Internal linking and a clear site structure
- Building relevant, trustworthy backlinks
- Optimizing titles, headings, and metadata
- Improving user experience
What’s changing is how we apply these fundamentals.
SEO professionals now need to think beyond traditional rankings and optimize content for visibility across search engines, AI-powered search experiences, and real user journeys.
What do you think is the most important SEO fundamental to focus on in 2026?
I completely agree. While AI and new search experiences are changing how users discover information, strong SEO fundamentals remain the foundation. In my opinion, search intent and helpful, people-first content are the most important areas to focus on in 2026. If content genuinely answers users’ questions and provides value, it has a stronger chance of performing across traditional search and AI-powered experiences.
