Great Blog Writing Starts with Understanding Your Audience

Most of the blog writers believe that the first step towards great blog writing is picking the right keywords or creating a compelling headline.

I think it begins much earlier and that is with knowing your audience.

Prior to writing any blog, I usually ask myself a few simple questions:

  • Who is it for?
  • What is the issue that they are attempting to solve?
  • What new insights can I give them that they don’t find elsewhere?

These questions help me to shape the entire blog according to my target audience.

Another mistake that writers often make is writing for the search engine first and the readers second. Although SEO is vital, readers remain motivated to read the blog when the content is genuine, useful, and easy to understand. A blog that’s over-stuffed with keywords doesn’t necessarily work as well as a well-structured blog that has real examples, clear takeaways and a good story.

It is also crucial to edit the work. Many of the best improvements come after the initial draft of the blog, editing out extraneous text, refining writing flow, making headlines more compelling, etc., and having each paragraph work for them.

Last but not least, don’t let a good blog be a one-time-only affair. Use it to create social media posts, infographics, newsletters, videos, or discussion threads to amplify the impact and get it out to more audience.

I am interested to learn how you guys write yourr blogs. Let me know in the comments!
