We spend a huge chunk of our lives at work. For most of us it is where we spend the majority of our waking hours during the week. So it makes sence that the relationships we build in the workplace can have a massive impact on how we feel about our jobs and how well we actually perform. When you have someone you genuinely connect better. When you have someone you genuinely connect with it makes the tough days easier to get through. You have someone to share ideas with, laugh with during breaks and lean on when work gets overwhelming. That sence of belonging and camaraderie can make you actually look forward to coming in rather than dreading monday mornings.
Research also backs this up. Studies have shown that employees who have strong friendships at work tend to be more engaged, more motivated and less likely to leave their jobs. When you care about the people around you it naturally makes you want to show up and give your best effort. It creates a positive environment where people support each other rather than compete against each other.
