What are SEO, AEO, and GEO?

SEO, AEO, GEO is a developing, hybrid Search Everywhere strategy. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) classifies websites in conventional search results (blue links). AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) is a type of content optimization that aims at providing short answers in voice/AI assistants. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) provides credibility, precision, and referencing in AI-generated answers (ChatGPT, Gemini).

Key Differences & Focus

  • SEO (Traditional): Concentrates on keywords, technical wellbeing and back links to achieve the top positions in Google/Bing.
  • AEO (Answer Engine): Preoccupied with resolving direct questions (with the help of FAQs, structured data) to be featured in the snippets or voice search.
  • GEO (Generative Engine): Concentrates on machine readability (EEAT – Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness) in order that AI systems suggest your brand.

How to Optimize for All Three

  1. Develop a Good SEO Base: Make sure that the technical, on-page, and off-page SEO is strong; the AEO and GEO are dependent on it.

  2. Structure Content to Answers (AEO): Have simple heading structures (H2, H3), direct answers to questions in the first paragraph, and schema markup.

  3. Maximize AI Credibility (GEO): More brand mentions on trusted third-party sites, more high-quality content to show in-depth expertise, and uniform brand information on the web.

Note: GEO is sometimes applied by some experts in place of Geographical Engine Optimization (local targeting) but in the AEO context, it most commonly means Generative Engine Optimization.
