What is Framer CMS? Will it make WordPress retire?

Today I’m going to explain about one of trending CMS in 2024.  It’s called Framer CMS. Even it was founded in 2014 by Koen Bok and Jorn Van Dijk, it started to getting trending recently.

Before talking about the “Framer”, we will get understand about “CMS” or else “Content Management System”.

In earlier times we used high level programming languages like PHP. JavaScript, Java to build the websites. Afte that the industry wanted easy and quick methods since the field was getting demanded very quickly. As a result of that Drag and Drop website building softwares came (Like Adobe Dremweaver, Muse…). Since those are limited of customization and commercial products, the “CMS” concept came to the world.

As you know a website has been built by gathering the contents. Contents mean texts, sections, media etc. What we are doing by coding, we are are organizing those contents in standard way. But its bit complex and taking considerable time to manage contents by using codes.

CMSs allow us to manage/organize the contents by drag and drop. We no need the much coding knowledge. That’s main advantage of using CMS.

When talking about CMS, “WordPress” takes a major role. Because,

Quick Facts: WordPress Statistics in September 2024 (Source: wpzoom.com)

  • WordPress powers 43.5% of all websites as their CMS.
  • Around 478 million websites are built on WordPress.
  • WordPress dominates the CMS market with a 62.6% share.
  • There are over 30,000 WordPress themes available.
  • More than 70,000 plugins are available for WordPress.
  • WooCommerce is the top e-commerce platform, holding a 36.42% market share.

But now, No-code tools/Low-code tools are coming to the market and getting competitive for WordPress (https://engage.primeone.global/question/trends-in-no-code-and-why-you-should-care-in-2022/).

Frame CMS is also a trending CMS at the moment.

Why trending?

1.Design and Interactive Prototyping

2. No-code website builder

3. Collaboration

4. Responsiveness and Light Weight Designs

5. Template Library

6. Integrations

Also, Framer CMS does not come with only CMS. Framer has a animation library called “Framer Motion” which is mostly popular among ReactJS, NextJS developers.

But the main advantage which is a plus point for “WordPress” is pricing. WordPress’s self-hosted version is fully open sources. But Framer comes under some pricing models. Anyway it allows free version as well with limited customizations.

Test it and let see your comments!
