You didn’t do anything wrong. Your content did not decline in quality. Your backlinks are intact. However, your traffic is reduced by 30, 40, or even 60%. The age of AI Overviews is upon us – Google shows you the answer on the first page of the results and you will not even have to press the link.

This isn’t a penalty. It’s a structural shift. And it needs a structural reaction.

The truth is that now 58.5% of all U.S. Google searches are zero-clicks, i.e., the user spends an entire search without making any click on a result. That figure is just increasing. Now diversify your sources of traffic. Email newsletters, YouTube, LinkedIn, Reddit, and podcasts are no longer optional side projects, but this is your insurance against traffic. The discovery based on LLM is increasing and the traditional web traffic is on the decrease; channel diversification and enhancing trust cues should be given emphasis. The authors and advertisers that flourish will not be the ones who strive for retrogressive ranking. It will be they who create audiences that are not reliant on a single algorithm to exist.
