Are passwords becoming useless?🔑❌
Think about how many various passwords you actually do have. If like most of us you have probably just a handful, and perhaps even the same one for a number of applications. ???? That is also why hackers love passwords so much because they are simple to compromise, simple to steal, and most people don’t bother to make them very secure.
But things are changing. We now have fingerprint scanners, Face ID, and even passkeys that let you log in without having to enter a single password. A quick scan of your finger or face and zap you’re in. It is faster, safer, and far less frustrating than trying to recall a convoluted combination of numbers and symbols.
And yet here is the catch: if your fingerprint data ever becomes broken, you cannot simply switch thumbs. And if you lose the gadget that holds your passkeys, things could become messy too. So maybe passwords are not completely dead yet they might still be needed as a fallback.
So the question is huge: are we headed towards a future without passwords forever, or will they always be there in some way?
???? Do you trust old-school passwords more, or the new passkeys and biometrics world?
Biometrics and passkeys are impressive and convenient, but when it comes to me having passwords as a backup still feels important for security.
