Sri Lanka Launches Bank Card Toll Payment System on Major Expressways

Sri Lanka has officially launched a system enabling toll payments via bank cards on major expressways starting today (21).

According to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Aviation, the new payment method is now available on the Southern Expressway, the Colombo–Katunayake Expressway, and the Central Expressway between Kurunegala and Mirigama.

The system has been implemented at 35 interchanges and 119 exit gates, allowing motorists to make seamless payments using their bank cards.

Ministry officials confirmed that staff have been trained to support the new system and ensure a smooth transition.

This initiative aligns with the government’s broader digitalization policy and is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion at toll booths and minimize payment processing time.
