Lesson 01 | How to Create a Website in WordPress

1. Get a Domain Name

First, we need a domain name. We can buy a domain name from sites like GoDaddy or get a free one from websites that offer free domains, such as Freenom.

2. Choose a Server

Next, we need a server to host our website. A server is where all our website files will be stored. We can use cPanel or XAMPP as our server.

• For cPanel, visit cPanel
• For XAMPP, visit XAMPP

3. Get a Theme

A theme decides how our website looks. We can get themes from websites like:

• WeaDown
• ThemeForest
• TemplateMonster

4. Create a Database

A database is where all our website’s information is stored, like user data, posts, and settings. We need to create a database for our WordPress site. This can be done in cPanel or another server tool.

5. Install WordPress

After creating our database, we need to install WordPress. Follow the instructions on the WordPress website to complete the installation. During this process, we can create an admin username and password.

6. Login to the Dashboard

Once WordPress is installed, we can log in to the WordPress dashboard using our admin username and password. The dashboard is where we can control everything about our website.

7. Install Theme

In the dashboard, go to the “Appearance” section and then “Themes”. Here, we can upload and install our theme.  Also, we can use pre-made templates. We can find templates on:

• WordPress Themes
• TemplateMonster
• WeaDown

8. Customize Our Site

Now, we can start customizing our site. This includes developing the footer, header, and body sections. Also, we can install plugins to add extra features to our site. Plugins are like apps for our website.
