Are you tired of Drowning in passwords? Is SSO the Answer for that?

Are you drowning in your passwords?  I know I am! How many passwords you use in everyday life varies for office use, personal use, and other uses. For those you need to keep memorizing every one of them or you can use the same for every site but it’s practically not a good practice because if one of your accounts has been hacked or leaked the data from every site you are using can be accessible .so memorizing all of them will be ends in frustration right. Do you think there are any solutions for that on that point the single sign-on (SSO) comes but is it worth it? Let’s know together.

What’s this SSO?

Imagine having a key that can open all doors in your house instead of using multiple keys. For that, instead of using multiple usernames and passwords you authenticate once and get seamless access to everything you need simply log in once, and access everything’s approach. That’s called SSO.

Any idea, How it works

So for an example think like this you are going to a leisure world in that ticket maybe they will print which areas you can access that when you enter any place they may request the ticket after you show them they will let you in here the main ticket plays like the identity provider for you so like that when you enter an application it will send a trusted identity provider you will provide your digital Id (login credentials) it will verify and give you a special pass that will allow you to enter the application. Common ‘pass’ formats are SAML, OAuth, and OpenID connect.

Why we want to care about SSO?

  • No more forgot passwords and resets, just one login is enough to remember.
  • It’s easier to keep an eye on things and by keeping one we can make it much stronger.
  • Time will be saved by instead of typing the password and usernames we can go with one click isn’t it super?

Where we can see SSO

  • Logging in to your email and work tools with just one click.
  • For websites we can log in with google or Facebook accounts. These are the SSO

Doesn’t it have cons?

  • You need to have a trusted identity provider otherwise data will be leaked.
  • If the provider system gets down you won’t be able to log in. The access through the provider will be fully lost.

So what do you think it’s worth or not?

From the view of my side, I feel like it’s much worth it will reduce the frustration we face when we have too many sites registered or need to access. How you feel about the SSO Let me know in the comments!
