And why do they use? What is the purpose of it?

JPEG / JPG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)
Purpose
✅ Best for photos, web images, and social media.
✅ Compresses file size well (smaller files, faster loading).
⚠️ Loses some quality each time it’s saved — not ideal for editing repeatedly.
Use it for
Website or social media image usage and Digital photography uses.
PNG (Portable Network Graphics)
Purpose:
✅ Supports transparent backgrounds
✅ Lossless compression — no quality loss
⚠️ File size is larger than JPEG
Use it for
Logos, icons, or any graphics with transparency uses, and web design (where sharpness and quality matter), as well as screenshots, the format can use.
SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics)
Purpose:
✅ Vector format (scales infinitely without losing quality)
✅ Text-based (editable with code)
⚠️ Not suitable for photos
Use it for
Logos, icons, illustrations, UI/UX elements, and Websites and mobile apps (for scalable graphics)
WEBP (Web Picture Format by Google)
Purpose:
✅ Modern format — combines best of JPG + PNG
✅ Smaller file size with great quality
✅ Supports transparency and animation
Use it for
Websites (faster loading, SEO-friendly) and modern web and mobile app images
TIFF / TIF (Tagged Image File Format)
Purpose:
✅ Extremely high quality, lossless format
⚠️ Large file size
Use it for
Professional photography or printing and archiving images without losing detail
RAW file Format
Purpose:
✅ Unprocessed data directly from a camera sensor
⚠️ Huge files and they require editing before use
Use it for
Professional photographers and advanced image editing in tools like Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop
PDF (Portable Document Format)
Purpose:
✅ Great for sharing images with text or documents
✅ Preserves layout and design
Use it for
Print materials and reports, flyers, brochures
HEIF / HEIC (High Efficiency Image Format)
Purpose:
✅ Developed by Apple; used in iPhones & iPads.
✅ Smaller size, better quality than JPG.
⚠️ Not supported by all older devices or systems.
Use it for
Mobile photography (especially iPhone users) and saving storage space with high-quality images
BMP (Bitmap Image File)
Purpose:
✅ Uncompressed format used by Windows.
⚠️ Very large file size, outdated for web.
Use it for
Old Windows programs or system graphics and rarely used now replaced by PNG or JPG
ICO (Icon File Format)
Purpose:
✅ Used for app icons, favicons (browser tabs).
✅ Contains multiple sizes of the same image.
Use it for
Website favicon and desktop or app icons
EPS (Encapsulated PostScript)
Purpose:
✅ Vector format for high-quality print graphics.
✅ Used in professional design and publishing.
Use it for
Logos, posters, and printed marketing materials, and Works in Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW
EXR (OpenEXR)
Purpose:
✅ Developed by Industrial Light & Magic (used in movies 🎬).
✅ Supports HDR (High Dynamic Range) images.
Use it for
Film, 3D rendering, and visual effects, advanced lighting, and color work.
HDR / Radiance HDR
Purpose:
✅ Stores high dynamic range (brightness and color).
✅ Used in 3D design, gaming, and visual effects.
Use it for
Game textures, 3D rendering, lighting environments
DDS (DirectDraw Surface)
Purpose:
✅ Used in game development for textures and 3D models.
Use it for
Game assets, 3D graphics, simulation software
TGA (Targa Graphic File)
Purpose:
✅ Used in older video games and 3D applications.
✅ Supports transparency.
Use it for
3D and animation pipelines and legacy graphics formats
AVIF (AV1 Image File Format)
Purpose:
✅ advance web image format even smaller and better than WebP!
✅ maximum compression and color depth.
⚠️ Still gaining support on some platforms.

DNG (Digital Negative)
Purpose:
✅ Created by Adobe for RAW photography.
✅ Universal format for RAW images (compatible with all cameras).
Use it for
