Google Adds Conversational AI Image Editing to Pixel Devices

Hey everyone,

Just came across some exciting news — Google is rolling out conversational AI-powered image editing to Pixel devices!

This update means you can now edit photos by simply describing what you want, rather than digging through menus and tools. Imagine typing or saying things like “make the sky brighter”, “remove that object in the background”, or “adjust the colors to look warmer,” and the AI does the job instantly.

What’s New?

  • Conversational Editing → You can chat with your photo editor.
  • Natural Language Commands → Instead of manual tweaks, just describe what you want.
  • AI-Powered Precision → It uses Google’s generative AI to enhance or fix photos without needing advanced editing skills.
  • Exclusive to Pixel (for now) → Rolling out first on Pixel devices, but might expand later.

Why It Matters

  • Makes pro-level editing easy for everyone.
  • Saves tons of time (no more spending 10 mins just removing a small object).
  • Opens up creative possibilities — you don’t have to know “how” to edit, say what you want.
  • It could be a game-changer for casual users, content creators, and even professionals who want quick fixes.

My Experience (So Far)

I got a chance to try it briefly on a Pixel 8 — honestly, it feels super intuitive.

  • I asked it to “make the sky more dramatic with clouds” → it did it in seconds.
  • Tried “remove the signboard in the corner” → clean result, barely noticeable.
  • It’s not perfect every time (sometimes results look a little too “AI-ish”), but overall, pretty impressive for a first rollout.

What Do You Think?

Would you use conversational AI for photo editing, or do you prefer manual control?

  • Do you see this replacing apps like Photoshop/Lightroom for casual edits?
  • What features would you want Google to add next?
  • Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Cheers

That’s terribly interesting!  Being able now to edit natural language seems like a giant leap as well considering that not everybody wants to learn all sorts of complicated tools. I think it may be used to replace Photoshop, Lightroom in quick, casual editing, however when it comes to real, detailed work, manual control will still be important.

I would currently see more style based prompts and possibly a batch edit structure of discussions. Providing Google continues to hone the degree of realism in results, then this would alter the manner in which we consider photo editing altogether.
