The Secret Language of Numbers in Persuasive Writing

Numbers are effective instruments of copywriting. When properly used, they capture interest, create trust, and convey value effectively and clearly. The trick, however, is to apply numbers appropriately, as both big and small numbers can have significance based on their application.

For example, it sounds very clear and straightforward to say that “a product arrives in 14 days”. However, by changing it to “delivers in two weeks,” it would become shorter and more believable. Correspondingly, the words” kills 99 percent of germs”, instead of ”leaves 1 percent of germs”, are more effective as large percentage numbers highlight the effectiveness rather than the small negative side of it.

Another area where the number context can be seen is pricing. It can make the price of “$29.99 per month” a little easier on the ears by stating that it is “less than one dollar per day”, which is pocket-friendly and cheap.

Additional tips:

  • To be simple and relatable, use round numbers.
  • Precision in numbers for credibility and reliability.
  • Indicate time periods in days or weeks to get a more precise idea of what is expected.
  • Increase the effectiveness claims of the product using percentages.

Listening to the manner in which you state your numbers, your copy would be more compelling and more reader-friendly. Always match your numbers with the message you are trying to emphasize for conversion rates to soar.
