Artificial Intelligence vs. General vs. Superintelligence

1. AI – Artificial Intelligence
AI is a wide area of computer science that invents systems that can execute tasks that traditionally need human intelligence to execute.
Examples: ChatGPT, Google Translate, self-driving car software, recommendation engines.

Characteristics:

  • Is able to execute certain duties (narrow AI).
  • Learn from data and patterns.
  • Not conscious or self-aware.

Advice: Start by understanding how AI works practically: machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing (NLP). Experimenting with tools like Python libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch) is very helpful.

2. AGI – Artificial General Intelligence
AGI is AI that is able to comprehend, learn and apply knowledge in a broad spectrum of activities just like a human being.

Characteristics:

  • Is able to think, strategize, problem-solve in other areas.
  • Able to transfer knowledge on one task to another.
  • It is not in the real world yet it is a theoretical next step.

Advice: Learn the foundations deeply: cognitive science, algorithms, data structures, and advanced AI models. Follow research papers and AGI discussions, because it’s mostly academic and experimental today.

3. ASI – Artificial Superintelligence
ASI is a type of intelligence that is more superior to human intelligence in terms of all the aspects creativity, problem-solving and emotional intelligence.

Characteristics:

  • Was able to excel humans at all their cognitive functions.
  • Now hypothetical and something available in a far distant future.
  • Ethical, safety and control issues.

Advice: Stay informed about AI ethics, safety research, and governance. ASI is a long-term concept, so right now, learning AI/AGI principles is more practical.
