How to Set SMART Goals in the Workplace
How to Set SMART Goals in the Workplace
Setting goals at work is really helpful because it keeps us focused and makes it easier to get things done. One way to set good goals is by using the SMART method. Here’s how it works!
SMART stands for:
- S – Specific: Our goal should be clear and understandable. Instead of saying, “I want to get better,” we can say, “I want to finish a course in web development.”
- M – Measurable: We should be able to measure our progress. For example, we could say, “I want to complete 5 lessons in the course by the end of the month.”
- A – Achievable: The goal should be something we can reach. Don’t choose something too hard or too easy. It should challenge us but still be possible.
- R – The goal should relate to our job or what we want to do in the future. It should help us improve or do better at work.
- T – Time-bound: Set a deadline, such as “I want to finish the project by next Friday.”
Here’s an example of a SMART goal:
“I want to finish 5 lessons (Specific and Measurable) in a web development course by the end of the month (Time-bound). This will help me improve my skills for my job (Relevant), and I can set aside time each day to do it (Achievable).”
Using SMART goals helps us stay on track and makes it easier to see what we’ve done. What’s yours?
